Okay. We’re going to talk about, you’re in the middle of a round of golf, things aren’t going too well and the ball’s not flying in the direction that you wish it to go, so let’s tackle one problem at a time. Let’s just say for arguments sake, I’ve set myself up and the ball has flown from the left to the right. Of course, anybody now knows that that left to right is a slice, is a big slice for a right-hander and if I actually come into it an I actually see my divot coming across, so it’s coming at this angle here, then obviously I’ve come across the ball and if we’re talking about correcting the swing, we might think, okay, I’ve come across the ball, that could actually make the ball go left like that and, of course, remember, you’re in the middle of a round of golf, you can’t get too complicated, we haven’t got somebody to help us, so from here what are we going to do?

The divot is the evidence and the ball spinning to the right. So, we get back over the ball again and the easiest thing in the world to do now is the say, right, let me bring that left shoulder forward and by bringing that left shoulder forward we’ll actually take that club back on the inside, so we’re now going back on a different path to what that divot suggests. Remember, we’re in the middle of a round of golf, we haven’t got time to hit 50 balls in the range. So, pull that shoulder there, that will bring the club on the inside and guess what, from the inside bringing the club back to the ball, you can’t slice. You might push the ball or you might hook the ball, but you can’t slice and you certainly won’t get the divot coming across because we’ve actually taken the club back in a different position, we’re taken it on a different pathway, now on the inside and attacking out. Before the divot said, because it came across, that the club went outside and it came inside.

Now, that in a nutshell is enough to kind of take in cause you’re on the middle of a golf course, but what I would say is go through the fundamentals. There are five fundamentals in the game and you’re on that golf course and any one of few things could actually trigger that swing out to in. What we’ve talked about here is actually just changing the swing. The divot has come across and we’ve changed the swing by bringing the shoulder forward, but just to highlight, if the grip was too week, i.e., the grip was to the left, that would make my shoulders open and that would make me swing the club out to in. If my ball position was too far forward and that was the only that was wrong, then that would also make me take the club out to in.

So, when you’re on the golf course it’s not as simple as saying, well, I’ve got the divot, I can see the evidence, that’s important, the evidence coming across, but go though the fundamentals, there are only five. Aim, grip, ball position, stance and body alignment and posture, they are your five fundamental and very quickly, within just maybe half a dozen golf shots you’ve eliminated what the fault was, but remember when we’re talking about the swing, the first one is to bring that shoulder forward and that will change your swing path immediately. Try it out.
