Lee Travino is certainly one of the greatest characters who’s ever been in the game of golf but maybe not one of the greatest golf swings. He had a very sort of an orthodox figure of a golf swing. It’s produced quite a high left to right fading shot. It’s particularly useful like type of shot when he got around the greens and particularly from 100 yards an in. He had this great ability to really spin the ball to a standstill. Have a couple of balances and spin back and stop really nicely on the green.
It is really the way you play the shot. You’re enabling to create so much back spin on the ball. He’s great at trapping the ball and hitting slightly across the line. If you want to spin your wedge just to get the ball to sit down a little bit. Here are a couple of keys that can help you spin the ball as much as Travino did.
Firstly, you’re going to need a good quality golf ball then a decent quality relatively new wedge with all the grooves and nice and shop and shiny. If it’s a dry day and you’ve got yourself a good lie and the green is relatively soft, it would be more receptive as well.
Then Travino worked on playing the golf ball from the middle of his stamps but with a slightly open left toe. So almost feel like you’re aiming a bit left about left toe just drawing back a little bit.
Travino was very steep in his golf swing. Now, to help you get steep, you’re going to take a little bit nearer to the golf ball. If you stand further away, your swing is more rounded. Stand a bit closer, your swing will feel a little bit steeper. So you don’t get too far back from the ball and you can pick it up steep. Just be careful of the shank if you get nearer to the golf ball. But if you consistently striking the ball from the middle, you can move a little bit nearer to steepen your swing. Then you got to be careful you don’t release your left hand ‘cause a steep swing with a releasing left hand is going to pull the ball.
Travino worked really hard on holding his left hand off. Being really firm with the back of the left wrist. So it’s a steep swing. Holding off for the back of the left wrist and just hit high left to right cut shots. If we strike down on the ball with an open face, we really cut across the back of the ball. With the conditions being right, this ball lands nicely and spins back a little bit. Good club, good ball, nice lie, receptive green, hit across the golf ball with an open face and be steep and you’ll be spinning the golf ball like Lee Travino with no problem at all.
