So as a golfer, if you are approaching this idea of a swing rebuild, we have got to be realistic about what we are going to expect. The long term is hopefully going to be an improvement to your game be it by five shots around, ten shots around whatever it might be. It often depends on your current level of ability, one thing I can guarantee you in the short term is that when you first make these changes it is going to feel pretty terrible. Generally speaking as a golf swing that is something that you have done over and over again, multiple thousands of times like brushing your teeth or driving a car or eating with a knife and fork. If we made you change the way you did those things it would feel terrible.
The other thing to notice is you will probably get worse at it before you got better. If I gave you a tooth brush and said right now you have got to start brushing your teeth with your left hand, stands to reason you are not going to be as good as you were brushing with your right hand, if you are right handed to start with. It is going to get worse before it gets better and it is going to feel pretty terrible when you are doing it.
So that point you have really got to be patient and be quite determined, you have got to understand this is a long term building process. It is not an overnight band aid but the chances are the long term benefit outweigh the short term pain that you have to go through. One of the considerations particularly relevant to the golf is that it might change the way you hit the golf ball in terms of the way the ball flies and the distance it flies. So, yes, your swing will look and feel different but actually the way you hit the ball might not be different as well. If you have been a drawer of the ball in the past, I will say you didn’t like the draw, you wanted to do something different, you rebuilt your golf swing, you might not be a fader or it might be vice versa. You might notice you are hitting the ball further than you have ever done in the past hopefully not hitting the ball shorter.
The other thing is not be hitting the ball on a different height, you might have hit the ball too high before and now you are hitting the ball lower. And all these considerations need factoring in particularly when you go back out on the golf course and start playing because let us say there is a favorite path three at your golf course and you have always aimed down the left hand side and always faded into the green with a six sign.
Now suddenly you have changed your swing, you are hitting the ball a club further, you are hitting the ball with a draw, you are hitting the ball a lot lower. Now we get to that path three, it is a completely different shape of shot, it is a completely different hole and the way you set up and way you aim needs to reflect that. You need to aim more to the right, you need to club down to a seven eye, you need to curve the ball from right to left and probably expect the ball to roll out more when it lands because it is drawing rather than fading. So you can see by changing the nature of your swing you will change the nature of your ball flight and you need to consider that when you go back out on to the golf course after your swing rebuild.
