Keep Your Swing Plane With Your Golf Short Game (Video) - by Pete Styles

One of the challenges we face as a golfer is that we can’t just keep repeating the same shot over and over again. Obviously the golf course is going to ask you different questions, T shot, Iron shot, chip shot, put, T shot, Iron shot, chip shot, put. We have got loads of different golf clubs in the bags to use.

We have got a couple of different types of swings full swing, short game swing, and putting action. So when we changing between the longer swing and the short game swing, it is important we can carry over as much good solid fundamentals from our full swings into our short game and that is particularly noticeable and relevant as we bring in this idea of one plane and two plane swing. We wouldn’t want to be a one plane swinger than a two plane wedge player or vice versa, two plane full swing, one plane playing with the wedge. It is going to try and be continuous, so when we have those one plane attributes of the slightly wider stance and more forward bend at the hips and slightly stronger grip. We need to bring that across into the short game. The change is going to be big enough from when we change from the seven, nine to the wedge of from the driver to the wedge. So to make even more changes and additional changes is never going to be a positive thing. Now when we are hitting the wedge shots we often do stand a little bit nearer to the ball but again if I am a one plane swinger, I will be nearer to the ball but still have a big tilt in my body. One plane swinger, sorry two plane swing with the wedge I might be up a little bit taller, my grip from a one plane swing are still slightly stronger with the wedge and slightly more weaker or more neutral for the two plane swinger and expecting the club to come a little bit flatter for the one planer little bit steeper for the two plane. So we can see how the fundamentals or the characteristics if you like for your golf swing bills. One plane or two planes at the full swing level should filter down into the short game. The club, the type of shot the manner you hit the ball is a big enough change. Don’t try and change all the fundamentals of your normal swing as well.
