You'll never see a more frustrated golfer and someone that's just fatted a chip from ten yards off the side of the green. I think we've all been in that situation haven't we have hot a decent approach shot up ten yards short the green we just want to lift it on and walk and tap the putt in, and we line everything up perfectly and everything is looking good and then we bring the club down just in front the ball and the ball goes about two feet. and you are really frustrated and guaranteed you can walk up to the next one and knock it straight onto the green just as you intend and you think why did I do that first time and that's the inconsistency of the game of golf and that's certainly being consistency relating to chipping. So how can we improve the inconsistency how can make the shot better but a lot of it will come down to technique it will come down to the technical aspects of striking the ball more consistently and I think for a lot of people it's it's poor technique that drives the bad strikes and mainly it's bad strikes that causes problems there because they are difficult shot to hit in terms of distance not a difficult shot to hit in terms of the line but if you're not striking. Well there's problems and we often see golfers will have the ball too far forwards the house will be too far back below making too big a swing and they'll be decelerating as they try and hit it and they're trying to just flick the ball on to the surface from here and those are all issues that struggle with consistency. So I'd like to make these changes to make your chipping game more consistent we're going to start by having a relatively narrow stance.

So having the round run about a foot ball with their soccer ball with between your feet when you're chipping is a great start point then going to position the ball middle or very slightly back of middle in the stance that having the ball slightly back of middle should encourage the club to come downwards on to the ball also going to encourage you in the set up position to position more body weight on your from leg. So for a right handed golfer I'm leaning left in my set up there around about seventy percent extra my left side. So seventy thirty now in my address position my hands will then also move forward with me so my hands move into my left side. So everything goes to the left hand side here and I'm standing much more my left leg as I hit through the ball and you see my right heel is lifting. So my real age is following me through the next consideration there is what the hands and arms are actually doing during the stroke and we talk about retaining a triangle. So a triangle is made and formed between the two shoulders and the two hands that are linked together and then we retain the triangle throughout the swing we often see golfers that struggle here will be picking the arms up and their straight away. You can see I've lost my triangle and then I'm scooping up the ball trying to flick it forwards here and again losing my trying also here we've got a nice triangle we come back together we come through together we retain the triangle we hit much nice shots if we can do that we also want to make sure that we hitting the ball we're not decelerating. So we're not flicking and slowing down and delaying the club coming this way and one last thing with all of the shots as within all parts of your game you're trying to improve particular try to improve the consistency of its practice you've got to get out there you've got to hit lots of these shots to practice. Your body needs time to adapt to these changes your body needs time to drill these changes in over and over again trying to get that consistency and it's not a glamorous part of the game it's not like driving the ball a long way or holing putts. This really is about just doing the same thing over and over again to drill that consistency of that ball back hands ahead grip down triangle to triangle and if you can do that hopefully your consistency in your chipping will improve massively.
