Hinge the Wrist Quickly for Downhill Bunker Shot by Tom Stickney Tom Stickney - A Top 100 Golf Teacher Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher

Hi I'm Tom Stickney Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor and today I want to talk to you about the downhill lie in the bunker. This is one of the hardest golf shots for most amateurs to do and I want to show you how this professional does it. You can see the hands cock up with quickly any kind of stays with the shot the key to this particular motion is really the beginning and what you're going to see is this gentleman is going to set the wrist very quickly. He's going to cock the wrist up with very quickly and what that does is that steepens his angle of attack and you can really see how the club hinges very rapidly off of start.

When that club hinges very rapidly it allows him to be able to come down very steeply behind this golf ball and when he does that he's able to slide the club under the golf ball get a little bit aloft out of the shot. As his club kind of stays with the shot to the see and boom just like so. So if you have a downhill lie in the bunker the key is to hinge the wrist and set the wrist that much quicker on the way back the steeper the lie the more you need to hinge your wrist in order to get down to that golf ball. So that's what we're looking for right here there's a hinge and now it stays with it.
