Why Do Professional Golfers Wear Sun Glasses? (Video) - by Dean Butler

Why do professional golfers wear sunglasses? Well, it’s not because their wearing, it’s not because they want protect their eyes from the sun. It’s predominantly to basically block out distractions. They wear these shades that go around here and they wrap round not like just a normal pair of glasses, they wrap around the sides. And they wear these sunglasses because when they are out there they’ve got the bright lights because it’s a darkened look, the definition is far, far better than kind of squinting down the fairway. You notice that more and more people are wearing these sunglasses in just cloudy days, not just when the sun shines, because when they’ve got this glasses and its dark it’s almost like putting your hands here and just having internal vision. Perfect example is Tiger Woods when he goes on the putting green, he squats down behind the ball and you see him like this, he’s blocking out everything around him, he’s just focusing on the task.

And that’s what sunglasses do and that’s why more and more pros are wearing them, basically focusing on the target, great definition, blocking out any distraction that is going on around them. It keeps them in that zone and that zone is so important. So they are wearing those sunglasses for that reason; definition, stops them getting distractions and keeps them in the zone. And that’s why they wear those sunglasses, not just protection from the sun. That’s well down the list.
