Why do players stand behind the golf ball before they hit their golf shot? Well there’s two main reasons for players doing this, first of all you need to have a really good look at the target and if you stand directly behind the golf ball so you are in line with the golf ball and where you want to the golf ball to go, you can really see down the line that you want the golf ball to travel rather than if you’re standing here to do it you are looking at a slightly different angle than the line that you want the ball to fly down. And it’s really important you get a good view of the target line and exactly what you want the shot to do. So that’s the first reason that players will stand behind the ball is that they are making a decision on where to hit the ball but they are getting a really good look at what the target looks like taking in as much details as they can see in the area to be able to hit the golf to the target. The second reason that players stand behind the golf ball before they hit their shot’s once they have decided where to hit the shot too and what shot they want to hit and they have got a good image of what that target area looks like they will now take their alignment from this position.
And to do that they will draw line back from their target to the ball and just pick a spot out one to two feet in front of the ball, now this spot is now going to allow them to line up correctly with the club face. So draw a line back from the target to the ball and just pick out something just in front of the ball one or two feet it could be a daisy a divots a piece of mud a twig there will be something there on that target line.
Now as you walk around to hit just focus on that point that you have picked out as your alignment and make sure the club face is square to that point. The ball is always going to fly off this club face at a right angle so you want to set the club face a right angle to the target line. So once you have set the club face at right angle to the target line and to that spot that you have picked now ensure that your feet are in line with the club face, so they are not rotated more to the left or more to the right, totally in line and now you can take your stance up and you know that you are in the right position to hit that golf shot from.
And the ball will fly directly at your target making it much easier for you to hit straight shots. So start standing behind the ball the next time you are out on the golf course get a good image of what the target looks like but then also use that opportunity to bring the target much closer to you, so it’s only one to two feet away, and you should find that you are aiming much more accurately.
