Why should I stay behind the ball with my driver? Now the driver is the toughest club to hit, is the longest, is got the least loft but also holds many rewards as well namely distance and power on the holes where you need to bomb it along off the tee. Now on the keys to consistently striking with the driver, is actually keep your swing center behind the ball at the point of impact.

Now what that means is if you can take a center of your swing so the middle of your forehead or position in the middle of your chest is to swing it back, keep the head or your swing center behind the ball and then swing through keeping the head and the swing center behind the ball as well. Now what this allows you to do is actually hit the ball on an upward angle of attack. Now that’s important because you want to be presenting the true loft of the driver to the ball. If you kind of have a descending angle of attack or your body moves ahead of the ball, you’ll just be striking down, decrease in the loft and also maybe skiing the ball as well. So staying behind that ball at the point of impact keeping that swing center behind that ball is incredibly important. If anyone tells you to actually shift forward and get your weight moving ahead of the driver all that is going to cause you to do like I said is strike down and cause inconsistent shots so staying behind the ball is very, very important. The easiest way to imagine it like I said is with the swing center on the head, but just try and clip the ball of the top of the tee and just watch it fly that little bit further. You’ll get a lot more height and a lot more consistent launch that way. So the next time you’re playing, get that ball to hit high, stay behind it, clip it off the top of the tee, and get a little bit more launch and a little bit more distance with your drives.
