4. Sedgefield Country Club Course Review

The practice facilities are not the most immaculate you will ever come across, which is the only downfall to this club. The driving range is quite small, and can only hold about 30 golfers, which is not the most adequate on a busy summer day. The putting green and short game area, on the other hand, are outstanding. The chipping green has two big bunkers, and allows golfers to work on a number of shots from 30 yards and in, while the putting green is a monster and can hold at least 40 golfers at one time. The golf course is second to none, and the reason that the Wyndham Championship calls this club home. A beautiful Donald Ross masterpiece, leaves this club as the ONLY Donald Ross course on the PGA tour.

5. Shoal Creek Golf Club Course Review

Today, the Shoal Creek Golf Club is still one of the US's best golfing resorts. What makes this golf course really unique is the terrain upon which it was built, i.e. 1550 acres of densely wooded property, located between Double Oak and Oak, in the south of the majestic Appalachian mountains. The land is absolutely outstanding for golf, making for the ideal location if it ever was one, and there was enough space to build not one but two golf courses, yet Nicklaus said that he desires to make just one, but a superior one. And he delivered with flying colors, as usual, as every hole at the Shoal Creek Golf Club is unique and plays different, providing its members with a championship grade golf course which is also very fun to play. The Shoal Creek features 7154 yards of golf from its longest tees and it hosted 2 PGA Championships, in 1984 and 1990, together with the US Amateur in 1986 and the US Junior Amateur in 2008. In 2011, Shoal Creek was home for another major event, the Regions Tradition on the Champion Tour.

Tom Fazio was literally forced to design a golf course which can compete in terms of greatness with the majesty of its surroundings. And he did it with flying colors, creating a magnificent course which changes directions all the time, beginning basically side by side with the Teton Range then turning toward the mountain peaks, then away again. It is said that Tom Fazio, while visiting the area was asked about how many great holes a top-notch golf course must have. 9. Sonoma Golf Club Course Review

The Sonoma course features 7100 yards of golf from its longest tees and its classic layout provides golfers with lots of strategic choices and various challenges, being built on 177 acres of pristine land, with undulating greens which are highlighted by majestic oak trees, lakes and the epic vistas of the Mayacamas Mountains together with neighboring vineyards. The long and short holes are excellently blended, making for a perfectly balanced golf course which has a perfect rhythm as you advance through the round, shot after shot. The design/layout is classic, featuring rolling hills and tree lined fairways, with a little creek meandering the property. There are also a few water-hazards coming into play on the back 9 but they present no significant problem. The course was ranked 30th by Golf Digest magazine in its 2013-2014 Top100 Greatest Golf Courses in America and first in its home state. Bottom line, the Southern Hills Country Club features a major championship layout, making for an awesome test of golf skill even for the golf-pros, boasting a no-nonsense design which is aimed at challenging the player and hasn't much to do with aesthetics and creativity, as everything is about golf in its purest form.
