Skokie Country Club Golf Course Review

The Skokie Country Club is the 5th oldest golf club in Chicago, the windy city, and one of the most historic in American golf. Just to get the general idea, the Skokie Country Club marked its 25th anniversary in 1922 by hosting the US Open in that year. Also, the Skokie Country Club is widely regarded one of America's best tests. The initial design of the golf course dates way back to 1898, when George Leslie created a crude yet pretty challenging 9 hole design. Later in 1904, one of the most prolific golf-architects in that era, Tom Bendelow that is, created an 18 hole track.

Tom Bendelow's design was impressively long for its time, boasting 6125 yards of golf from its longest tees and playing a rather weird 75 and a half par. World-famous architect Donald Ross was hired in 1915 to work his magic on the Skokie Country Club's golf course and he did it, obviously, creating a prairie styled golf course with awesome bunkers and greens. The new layout featured 6340 yards of golf, being longer than before, while the par was cut to 70. In 1938, the Skokie Country Club was redesigned again, tweaks and improvements were performed, leaving only six Ross-made holes in their original condition. However, the golf course can still be claimed as a Donald Ross design. To describe it in a few words, this baby is arguably the best one north-side of Chicago, being that kind of facility you never get tired of playing. The bunkering job is outstanding, with fast and large greens, featuring a mix of holes that will require you to go through all the clubs in your bag. The Skokie is fair yet challenging enough even for the scratch golfer, being a pleasure to play and always maintained in impeccable condition.
