So when you’re considering new golf clubs, one of the primary things you need to be looking at is that the shaft that you have within the golf club. We often talk about this as the engine of the golf club. It’s often overlooked a little bit. But there’s different things we can change within the shaft that can control the way you hit the golf ball in the way it feels when you hit it. We can change the flex of the golf club, we can change the weight of the golf club and we can change the kick point within that shaft as well.
Now your swing speed is probably the thing that will determine the flex of the shaft that you need. Generally speaking, a fastest swing speed would actually require a stiffer flex shaft and the slowest swing speed, a softer flex shaft would work better there as well. The one thing we also have to look at is the tempo of your swing. If you have a very quick transition into your down swing, we look at stiffening the shaft slightly. If you have a slower tempo and a slower transition, a slightly softer flex shaft would work for that one.
Also when we talk about kick point, the kick point is the bending point of a shaft. When we talk about higher and lower kick points is not a massive difference, I’ll be honest with you, it’s only a point in the shaft that’s upward down a couple of inches. But this changes the bending profile of the shaft. Now if we have a lower kick point but actually have more dynamic loft hitting the ball higher and a higher kick point would be a less dynamic loft hitting the ball a bit lower. So if you have a ball flight the balloons or doesn’t climb up into the air enough, talk to your PJ professional club fitter about how you can change the kick points of the shaft and how you can change the flex of the shaft to see your game best.
