If you have ever struggled with a slice and you have gone to get club fitted with a reputable retailer or a PGA golf professional they may have encouraged you to look at an offset driver. Now an offset driver is where the leading edge of the golf club actually sits back behind the where I would normally be and actually behind the shaft, now my driver doesn’t do that, my driver is a normal driver whether the leading edge of the club face and the shaft are all in line but an offset driver will have a little goose neck in here and I will just sit back a little bit and initially when you set that up, it can look a little bit strange but there are performance benefits of that driver.

Basically an offset driver does two things, firstly it takes a little bit longer for the club head to get around to the golf ball so it will just square the club face up a little bit more, and stop that open club face that can cause the slicing golf ball, also having an offset driver actually produces a little bit of a lower and deeper center of gravity. When you swing the club quickly the center of gravity wants to lineup with the center of the shaft, that will produce a dynamic effect of bending the shaft forwards this way creating more loft and again a slightly more closed club head position. So when you swing the driver quickly the more loft and the slightly more close club face produces a higher and slightly straighter ball flight. So if you struggle with a left or right slicing shot experiment with nice lofted offset driver and see if that will just give you the time and the control to get that club face a little bit squarer reducing that distance left to right curve on the spin. Offset driver might help you if you are slicing.
