The Timing Of The Golf Swing Turn (Video) - by Peter Finch

When you are looking to improve the back swing turn, timing is a very, very important thing. And timing is very simple word for sequencing. It’s making sure the certain parts of the body are moving in the right order. So, to make sure your timing is correct, all you can do is follow these very, very simple guidelines and you can also associate numbers to these positions and count your way through to really increase the feeling that your timing is absolutely bang on.

So, when you are getting in a setup position, as you take the club head away, if you take into a position where that shaft is nice and parallel to the ground and the arms are extended away from the body, this can be position number one. Then as you move upwards and you hinge your wrists, this can be position number two. And then finally as you turn up to the top and complete your shoulder turn, the hips are rotated slightly. This can be position number three. And if you want a nice smooth, slow back swing and you want to get all these positions in place, all you can simply do is count yourself in, count yourself down. So, get into this position, nice strong setup, we’re taking it away, one, two, three. And then just counting yourself one more time, one, two, three, one, two, three, and you can use that very, very simple count drill to make sure you are doing things in order. If you do things in order and you feel that maybe one and two are a little bit moved together or three is happening a little bit quickly, just slow it all down, break that drill down again and then hit a few more shots. And I want you to actually practice that for a little bit of time. Pop a ball over, exactly the same thing, one, two, three with the count, one, two, and then clip it away. I didn’t count, but I didn’t quite trust myself. But please count, count it aloud. It definitely works, help get that timing in the back swing.
