As a fault that I often see associated to people that have short golf swings is the fact that their swing is very different when there's a ball and when there's a practice swing. If they're making a practice swing, they're quite happy to swing the golf club to a full turn and all the way back through again, and they don't have a problem physically getting the golf club in the right position. Yet when they hit a ball, their swing becomes a lot shorter and they don't allow that full swing to happen.

Part of that really is the anxiety, the mental anxiety that they want to hit the ball so desperately, they don't actually let themselves fully complete their turn, or they're scared that the further the club comes up, the worst they're going to hit the golf ball.

I would like to get yourself in a position where you feel really comfortable completing your backswing before you start your swing down. So, as a drill and an exercise here, we can just actually have a little bit of a pause at the top of the swing to make sure the backswing and the downswing are two completely separate parts. So, it's not backswing, downswing, but it's backswing, downswing, and that allows you to finish one movement before you start the next movement. That means that you should have completed your backswing like you do so nicely in your practice swings.

So, if your practice swing is nice and full and through, have the same rhythm in your real swing. So, we'll actually incorporate a little bit of a pause. I would suggest this is just a drill. I'm not a big fan of seeing a pause in a normal golf swing. I feel that it can ruin your rhythm and your timing and your tempo. But as a drill, you could have a little pause at the top to make sure you finish your swing.

So, it turns to the top, pause and then hit through. That little pause at the top just clarifiers that that was my backswing, that's my downswing and there was a difference between the two movements. The first swing I hit just there was half a downswing and I never really completed my turn. So, allow yourself to fully finish one part of your swing before you start in your next swing. Longer swing, longer shots. Good luck with that.
