So if we’ve established that the balance and the swing weight, movement is important throughout the swing, the stance through is also important at the very endpoint of the swing. And actually if we get the endpoint right, often we get a lot of processes before that correct as well. So from a good address position, we’re going to swing up to the top of the finish position and hold the finish here and make sure we’re nicely balanced. Bodyweight on the left side, right tip toe upon to the – onto the tip toe with the whole of the foot flat and facing backwards, hips and chest facing down to the target and the priority here is balanced enough that we can stay still, that we’re not toppling forwards and falling over or falling backwards at that point.
So as you make a full speed swing back and through up and hold the finish, there’s not sort of a great deal in wondering and wavering and fighting for my balance. And here’s a great exercise to make sure that you can do that part of your swing correctly. It’s a good warming up exercise actually before you go out and play to ensure you’ve got a good balance. So go ahead take your normal setup position but from the start, go straight from the start to the finish, wind it up to the finish and hold it balanced, bring it back down now, through the impact position reverse and up to the top and again balanced all the way through to finish and balanced and back to the ball balanced. Up again to finish, all the way back through to the top and finish again.
Because I keep repeating that finishing position, I get the real idea that I’m comfortable in that position. I want to get to that position. Then I just tell my body that if I’m starting here and finishing here in balance, the rest of my backswing and downswing better be balanced, because if I start falling off balanced here, I’m never going to get to my intended finish position. I’m going to fall over too soon. So your body knows. It likes its start position. It likes its finish position. It knows where to go. It better do a really good job of joining up those dots. And if you can work on a good balanced follow through position, the weight transfer that happened before that will be much, much better. Work on good weight transfer to work on good golf shots.
