Why the Arc Putting Stroke Could be Best for the Senior Golfer (Video) - by Dean Butler

That’s actually the best side. In putting there are two basic theories about how to swing the Putter. One is going straight back to straight through and one is an arc. So the first thing you may be thinking yourselves at home watching this is saying to yourself well, which one is for me? How do I know which one is for me? Well, there’s a lot you can actually think about. When you’re over the ball, if you tend to have a bladed type of Putter – now a blade is something that’s quite thin. A Mallet Putter is something like this, big and chunky. Big back on it, this is a mallet much forgiving from the blade, but there’s a difference in the two Putters, a blade and a mallet.

So we’re talking about a blade. The arc of the swing is something that would actually move inside, back to the ball and then through again to the target. That’s what the arc would go like. And the other swing is one that goes straight back and straight through. So which one’s best for you? If you use a Blade Putter, then maybe the arc would be better. But the arc is a more complex putting stroke than the one that goes straight back and straight through. Think about it. You start with the Putter square to the target, then you swing the putter on the inside, and it’s very important that you get the Putter back to the ball and then continue through on the same arc. So you’ve got this actually going in, back to the ball and through. So you can imagine getting that club face back to the starting position, which was square to the hole, it becomes a little bit more complex. So that’s what happens to an arc and if you have a Blade Putter put it try it. It’s not the one I would actually choose to actually perform, but at least that way on the Putting Green you can have the goal and find if you’re consistently going down that ball to target line or whether or not you’re tending to hold the ball for this sort of swing when you come inside and come around, a ball that goes to the left of the target. If you find yourself going on the inside and not getting the club face back square to the target so it’s open, then of course is going to go the right hand side. So it’s not a good putting to the style, there are not that many people out there who actually use the arc. The best putting style will be to set yourself up and to concentrate on taking the club straight back and straight through. So eyes over the top of the Putter, by taking the Putter back straight back and straight through. Now to do this on the Putting Green, if you imagine yourself putting the Putter down and just putting a couple of golf clubs either side. One ball outside the toe, one ball outside the hill, and then do that. So putter three golf balls down going back on the toe, which is that side, the right, and three on the hill and the concentrating your swing in the Putter down that alley way and creating that alley way. And that way when you’re over this ball you can clearly see if the Putter is going straight back and straight through, or whether you’re actually going to catch one of the balls outside or inside. So hopefully, you’ll go out and have these two techniques, give them a go on the Putting Green, but I would out the gate going down for the straight back and straight through. I’ve put those golf poles in a line to create that gateway where the Putter goes back and through. And I think you’ll find that one is the easy one of the two, assuming that one is going to get the best results.
