Target vs Position Practice By Tom Stickney Tom Stickney - A Top 100 Golf Teacher Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher

Remember there are 2 types of practice. Field practice is working on targets hitting a fade hitting a draw things like that moving the golf ball around so you can squeeze the ball into your targets. Mechanically based practice is working on your positioning maybe I'm working on my takeaway versus takeaway or maybe I'm working on my transition or what have you. So when you have mechanically based practice you need to have a lot of routine practice routine like this a lot of rehearsals to feel what you're trying to do when you take it back.

So remember if you come to the lesson tee have an idea of what you're trying to do is it field based practice where you're trying to find the targets or is it mechanically based practice where you're working on positioning. If you're working on positioning you need to do a lot of feels and a lot of rehearsals in order to make sure that you get that proper feel. So remember take the time out here to experiment with field bass practiced versus mechanically based practice and that will help you to segregate your practice time so you're working on the right piece that you need when you're playing out there on the golf course try it.
