Because the transitional phase of your golf swing is such an important part but it’s such a dynamic part of your swing. The best way to improve it is actually just to do some drills. It’s okay to do mirror work and looking in the mirror and checking all the positions but there’s no suggestions there that actually when you go and hit the ball that all those things are still going to happen. So it’s quite important that we bring in the dynamic motion of actually hitting a golf ball with the technical thoughts of how to improve transition.

So the best drill I can really give you to work on here is a little pumping drill. So let’s imagine that we’re setting up the golf ball here. We go ahead and swing the club nicely to the top and then we start transition and stop transition. Start the transition and back up and we pump the club a couple of times. Now this allows me then to look and to focus on the correct parts of my body. I can make sure that my hips are moving across, that my hips are then rotating, that my right elbow is coming in, that my head is staying back, that my right heel is lifting up. All those little things, I can make sure they are all happening and then I can go ahead and hit the golf ball. So this time around I’ll face down the line, put a ball on the tee peg just see that you don’t have to worry about strike here. You can really go ahead and hit this drill nicely without worrying too much about strike. A nice set up, to the top and down. To the top and down and then to the top and that time go ahead and hit the shot. So again, we go to the top and down, top down, top and hit. And each time as I do that pumping exercise, I’m not simply just wildly swinging the club and stopping it. I am focusing on my lateral rotation, my right elbow staying into the side of my body particularly if you’re guilty of throwing it over. I’m keeping my head back, keeping my eyes down, keeping my rear heel lifting. All of those things are happening in that pumping exercise. And I think that’s one of the best drills I’ve encouraged you to do over all of your practice sessions to make sure you’re getting the club in a good position, to make sure you’re improving on transition to ultimately lead to a very aggressive impact position and longer, straighter golf shots.
