To a golfer saying the word shank out loud is like saying Macbeth in a theater. People think it gives them bad luck you know I'll sit down with somebody and say I saw that you shank that ball there they go don't say that I don't say that I will catch the shanks. The more you say that I get it to talk about the dreaded s word.
So the shank is something that really puts the fear in a golfer and I think most golfers are probably had the odd shank and some people who've had bouts of it. We talk about catching the shanks because it feels like it comes from nowhere once you start shanking it you can't get rid of it. So let's just understand firstly what a shank is if you've got the club here we've got to toe you we've got the sle and we've got the heel very similar to the shape of a foot. A ball that is hitting this part of the golf club the neck of the golf club that we sometimes call it or the heel of the golf club that's going to be called the shank.
