So, once you have committed to making this Davis Love Ultra Wide Backswing and you have worked on the backswing, you are up to the position at the top, it’s now important that we work on three key elements in the downswing. We have got to make sure we engage the legs, we have got to keep a nice stable head position and we have got to avoid any scooping or flicking particularly as we get through the long irons.

So, with that in mind as I setup to the golf ball this way around, I have created a super wide long arc here, it’s important I don’t just use my hands and arms on the downswing and hit it with a stable bottom half, I have actually got to be quite aggressive now to drive the lower half into the back of the ball, I really want to load through my legs rotating my hips into my left side and drag the club round on this big arc and then really focus on throwing it all the way through to create that super wide swing. So, just because the focus has been on the hands and the arms and the backswing, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be fully driving with the legs for the downswing as per a normal golf swing as well. The second focal point we mentioned there was head position. I think a lot of people particularly when we are trying out this sort of new idea, this new idea of a golf swing they are quite keen to see the results. And I guess for a lot of golfers they get a bit eager to look up and see how they got on. And this swing particularly really wants you to focus on this concept of staying down through the impact zone, making good contact, keep extending, keep extending. Your rear shoulder touches your chin that initiates the lifting and the rising of the head. We certainly wouldn’t want to be looking up and driving up to see our results because chances are we are going to look up and actually see poor quality shots because we didn’t stay down long enough. And touching on that second point, again staying down long enough can also infer this concept of trying to scoop with the longer irons. So, if you were coming down into the golf ball and we had a long iron in hand, we would really want to stay down, drive the legs, keep the head down and then take a little divot, just a little shallow divot after the golf ball. I think for a lot of golfers particularly when they are swinging on a wider arc, they almost get the concept, the arc is on the way up as you hit the ball and that’s okay with driver or even a three with something that’s teed-up the ball is in the air, you can come from below, you can hit up on it that’s fine, but if you have got a long iron, you still need to be striking down, you still need to taking ball and then turf. So, those key points again, super wide big backswing, drive the lower half, head steady, make sure you stay down, try and brush the ground after the golf ball, so you are not hitting the ground first leaning back and scooping up on it. Bring those three points into your game plus this super wide backswing and you should be well on your way to making that Davis Love wide arcing swing.
