Is being relaxed important to hitting the golf ball a long away? What you’ll tend to find is that with the longest hitters they have a lot of natural strength, a lot of natural flexibility but when they actually strike the ball they are also very, very relaxed. What tends to happen if you grip the club very tightly and you are quite tensed with your body you won't actually be able to move and your swing won't actually be able to flow in the correct manner.

The easiest test that you can do of this is to get to a driving range, grip the club as tight as you possibly can, tense up the upper body muscles and actually try and swing. You won't have any freedom of motion to actually hit consistent shots, on the very next ball if you keep nice and relaxed, keep your hands as light as you possibly can on the club, keep the upper body, the lower body all the body nice and relaxed you’ll see that you can actually turn a lot freer and actually deliver a lot of more power into the ball. And this is the same with any club from a seven ion which I have hit here right up to a driver. So if you are looking to try and hit the ball a little bit further don’t be tight and tensed be nice and relaxed and that starts just with the grip, keep it relaxed almost like you are holding a live bird, you don’t want it to fly away, but you don’t want to hurt it. Keep it nice and relaxed that will relax the hands and relax the arms and then relax the body as well.
