What is the best ways to recover from the trees? Now if you’re playing at a course which features quite a lot of woodland and you hear an offline Tee shot, you may find yourself within the trees. As soon as that happens you need to turn on your course management and try and find the easiest and the safest way out and then if the match is on the line or you need to make the shot, try and find a way which we can get your ball to the target. But you need to properly assess what is the best option.

If there is a gap which is only the size of a dinner plate 200 yards away in the trees, that’s not going to be the safest option, it could be a better option just to play out sideways. But whatever the situation you find yourself in, there is a certain technique that you can deploy, to actually try and get that ball out a little bit lower, so underneath the canopies and actually get the ball running, once it actually lands on the fairway or near the green or actually get it rolling on to the green as well. Now it’s basically just a little bit of a punch shot, so once your course management has been decided and you know where you actually want to play and what type of shot that you want to actually attempt, you can use this little bit of a punch shot to actually get the ball out in the way. It’s pretty simple, all we need to be doing, you just pop in a little bit of weight on the front foot, pick in an appropriate club which is going to keep the ball low and actually get it out of the trees. Keep the hands ahead of the ball at a dress, and then as you come through impact, get the hands ahead of the ball again. And if you can return it to that point the ball will come out low with quite a lot of run and you should be able to scamper it up the fairway towards the hole or even onto the green. So the stands and the posture is pretty much to say, ball position a little bit further back than usual, hands and weights ahead and just a little swing, just to punch the ball out and get it rolling. And don’t be afraid to strike it down and through, if you do strike down and through the ball, it will come out a lot lower and hopefully like I said, actually roll down to the hole once it actually lands on the fairway. The biggest mistake you can make when you’re in the trees, is to go for a shot which is by no means even possible. So like I said you’ve seen that very small gap – you’ve suddenly got a feeling you’re Tiger Woods and you want to drill it through that gap and play the glory shot. Take your medicine, if you’re in the trees, play it out safe and try and get a good score from where you end up, don’t go for the glory shot, use this punch shot, get yourself back into safety and keep yourself in the game.
