Why do I have a slump in the middle of my golf round? If you find that around the turn on the golf course, say through 8, 9 and 10, you’re having a slump in your golf, it’s not because your swing has changed or your technique is altered; your technique will be pretty constant, what’s happening is you’re losing focus, you’re losing concentration. And the main reason for that is you’re probably hungry and thirsty, that’s one of the main contributing factors to loss of concentration is the fact that you’re not hydrated and you’re not refueling your body, and it does affect you mentally as well as physically.
So your swing is not – your technique is not particularly changing, it’s just that you’re feeling tired, you haven’t; refilled the energy, you haven’t refilled your body for the energy that you’ve expelled on the first few holes. Then you get to the turn and you think 10th hole I’ll have something to eat and drink, you then take onboard the fuel and hydrate yourself again and by hole 12 and 13 you’re back to playing quite well, so the answer to this, if you’re having a slump in the middle of your round is to make sure that you’re eating and drinking earlier in the round, don’t wait till hole number nine, when you get to the halfway hole or hole number 10 to refuel your body, be doing it throughout the front nine, you’re using energy up, you need to replace it.
So my tip to you would be on odd numbered holes, make sure you drink water or juice and on even numbered holes, make sure you have a little snack, something from a cereal bar, some nuts, some fruit to replace those energy levels, you don’t need to eat all at once, graze. So take two sips of water and on the next hole just maybe have two mouthfuls of your energy bar then two sips of water again, two mouthfuls of your energy bar. You don’t need to eat them all at once, just keep refueling, rehydrating for the energy that you’re using upon those holes, and then you’ll finally not having a slump and you get through the middle of your round with a much better score.
