Why Do I Fall Off Balance After My Golf Shots? (Video) - by Natalie Adams

Why do I fall off balance after my golf shots? The main reason for this is your head is moving too much during the golf swing, either to the left or to the right, forwards or backwards. And with your head being unstable it’s then affecting your balance and your center of gravity so you're finding it difficult to hold your balance through your golf shot. So what we've got to do to stabilize your balance and to get you finishing in a better position is too keep your head more stable. Before you work on your head position what I'd suggest you do is that when you're out on the golf course then you hit you're golf shot and once you’ve hit you're golf shot, just hold your finish for a good count of three seconds. If you're in position and you're holding that balance position for three seconds you are balanced but if you find it's really difficult to hold that and you're falling over one way or the other then obviously we need a drill to help you with keeping your head position more balanced.

So here is a great drill to focus you on keeping your head more in position, all I want you to do set up ready to hit your golf shot and then I just want you to pop your feet back together for me so that your feet are completely together. What this is going to do is – because you're making the base below you much narrower it's going to exaggerate if your head moves. If your head moves over to the right here you'll have to step over and you'll notice that your head is moving similarly left or forwards or back you'll find it very difficult to balance. So it's really exaggerating the need to balance during the swing. So just play your golf shots with your feet together, just take it easy to start with if this is a new drill for you. Nice easy swing back then through and just work on keeping your feet together all the way through the swing. You see I can hold my balance with my feet together so it's going to become much easier for me now when I go to – split my feet and go back to the normal stance. The wider your base is the more you're going to balance. So if you can manage to hold your balance and not fall over during the shot with your feet together, you're keeping your head nice and static, your head is staying very stable and you'll stop falling off balance through your golf shots.
