Is bigger better? It depends who you talk to. The Taylor Made Spider OS CB is an oversized (and I do mean over) mallet putter new to the TM line this year. As with most oversized heads, the massive size makes it more stable at impact, helping you to keep your stroke on line. It has a unique deep milled insert that is vertical instead of horizontal which TM claims gives it better roll, sound and feel. The sight line on this putter is significantly raised, making it very easy to aim.

The precision milled surfaces give the Spider a sharp look all around. The OS line of putters all have a cavity that is filled with thermo-plastic foam, making the head somewhat lighter. This has allowed TM to make the head larger, increase the MOI to make mishits less punishing and give it a bit of a hollow sound at impact. According to designer Clay Long, “from 15 feet, a small mishit of say ½” would have your putt roll an extra 3-4 inches”. It seems that is a lot of roll, but it is also quite a big miss. I would suggest that if you struggle to hit the sweet spot, then the Spider OS CB may be the putter for you. The Spider OS CB is available in both RH and LH, and is face balanced. The Spider has an off-set shaft and is offered in lengths of 34.5, 36 and 38 inches. Note: It may surprise you that the average length of putters on the PGA Tour is 32.5 inches.
