For a lot of golfers that are trying to improve on their golf one of the first things they try and understand is what their swing plane looks like. They might have seen it on TV, they might have heard about it, read about it, you know, he has got a really good swing plane, he has got a steep, he has got a flat swing plane, so they try and work out what their swing plane is, but for a lot of golfers they don’t necessarily know what their swing is because you can’t see it when you’re playing golf. If I’m looking down here I don’t really know what’s going on back here with my club, particularly my downswing plane because I’m watching the golf ball and I could look in the mirror and I could see what I look like in a mirror and that would look great, but that’s not my actual real swing. My real swing is when I’m looking at the ball at full speed. We often see golfers change their swing plane.

So the perfect piece of equipment is exactly what I’ve got set up today. I’ve got the video camera set up down the line and that is going to enable me to view my golf swing and my swing plane particularly. So if you’ve got a mate or a playing partner that has got a video camera or even just the camera of your phone, it’s good enough to do this. You can stand down the line and you can watch your swing plane. A little tip when you’re setting the camera up is make sure you firstly establish your correct target and even use an alignment rod to put down here and also down here to make sure that you’re pointing in exactly the right direction so that you know where the camera should be lined up. The next thing you would then consider doing is positioning the camera exactly on your toe line, effectively your toe line is very similar to your hand line, so get the camera lined up right behind your toes and your hands and keep it there, keep it consistent. So fix your ball position in the same place, fix the camera in the same place because if you go back and review these videos and then make some change and look at your swing plane again, that swing plane is going to look very different if the camera is slightly off angle. So, for example, I think my camera is pretty good there for my line, but if I was aiming this way my swing plane and path is going to look completely different so if I was aiming this way. So for reference purposes for yourself, you need to make sure your video camera is bang on line to make sure the swing path and the swing plane is bang on line as well. 2016-04-22
