Welsh golfer Ian Woosnam was one of the great five players of his generation, they were all born within a few weeks of each other and then they went on to dominate the European Tour. He also won one major victory at the Masters and have a very unique golf swing. Built more out of the fact that he wasn’t the tallest golfer in the world he was relatively short and had to use that to his advantage rather than let it be a detriment. Now what he did because he was quite short is especially the driver use a very long club stand up quite tall and then move the club very, very flat around the body, very, very flat indeed.
Now what this actually caused was the club to come in on quite a shallow angle of attack quite a long way from the inside so he used to hit quite big draws, but he used this to his advantage and actually increased his distance and despite his size he was hitting it a long way in comparison to his peers. So a long driver and generally with long clubs standing on quite tall and then taking the club back very, very flat, returning it very, very flat and swinging through very, very flat as well.
And what that caused him to do like I said was come inside from the inside, hit quite big draws and keep up with some of the other players. He didn’t let his height be a disadvantage and he used it to his advantage. So if you are a player who is slightly shorter than average check out Woosy swing and see what you can learn from his action.
