So what’s the benefit of a face balanced putter? Well first we need to define what a face balanced putter is. Face balanced putter like this one means that when I hold it in the middle of the shaft that the toe end is here is balanced, is level, is not trying to drop and twist. A normal blade style of putter the toe would hang down a little bit too much like this. And the reason why this is face balanced is because the ankle of the shaft points down here and aims directly for the middle of the club head. It's just the goose that kicks back here and then back across. But actually balances the club perfectly on its face.

Now the benefit for this one when making a putt is that there is a line up to a putt here. And I make my stroke come backwards and forward. The club as we see from here is quite happy to be balanced perfectly leveled and swing backwards and forwards perfectly leveled. It doesn’t want to twist and rotate around an axis, because the axis is in the middle of the club. So now as I line this up I rock that backwards and forward in a nice straight line and the club is quite happy to swing on a straight path. And that has a benefit, because actually from mid to short length putts we don’t really want that club to deviate too much open and too much closed.

So generally speaking a face balanced putter is going to want to swing straight back and straight through a lot more easily. Now after with face balanced putters you have a bigger alignment line on the back. More often than not is a mallet style designer or a bigger style designer the two ball style and having that straight line or that longer alignment tied, we’ll have to make it easier to line up to the hole. So if you're struggling with your alignment and often you feel like if I'm too far left, too far right before you hit your putt, the mallet style of design and the face balanced design of your putter will help you hold more of those mid to short length putts.
