Left Hand Golf Tip: How to Cure a Reverse Pivot Golf Swing Problem (Video)

One swing fault which is quite common throughout kind of the left handed golf fraternity, is actually reverse pivot; not only on the back swing, but also on the through swing as well. Now reverse pivot is basically as you turn back, your lower half goes one way as you turn, but the upper body kind of slants over to the right hand side a little bit this. This is a classic reverse pivot shape. Now, the problem with getting into this kind of position is it has to reverse itself. So, if you’re coming down from here, a lot of players get into this position. So as a reverse pivot on both sides, so the top of the swing, you tilting of to the right, and then tilting of to the left like this.

And it’s not – it’s just not a consistent way to swing, it’s not an efficient way to use your body. It’s a lot easier to turn back keeping the weight nice and central, and just rotating the shoulders over the top of the hips. So I’m not letting the hips kind of slide that way or that way, just turning, and just rotating over the top of the hips keeping the spine angle as straight as possible. From there it’s a lot easier just to turn into the shop like this. Now it’s not easy too if you have been doing it for a while its not an easy thing to get rid of. It won’t go overnight, but lots and lots and lots of swings, practice swing just turning over the ball, not tilting that way, and then throw the ball turning over the ball not tilting back that way. A nice little drill you can use and it’s a great way to actually start stretching before a round, is just to get the club, pop it behind your shoulder, get into a posture position, turn back, get the end of the club point at the ball, turn through, get the end of the club points then ball is well. It’s a great way to actually stretch before a round as well. So, if you want to stop a reverse pivot, use that drill, use those tools and hopefully you can eliminate it from the game.
