So during this section, I’ve compiled some drills for you. It should eradicate the thins and the top shots that sometimes effect you on the golf course. The first thing to understand is what exactly do we classify as a thin or a top.

There’s a band around the golf ball, the equator, the middle part of the golf ball. Anytime, your golf club hits above the equator, we’re going to call that a top shot. It would generally result in the golf ball being sent down at first.

Now, occasionally, you’ll hit the top so badly, the ball get buried into the floor and actually bounce and spin off the floor when it will go up in the air but it would be really low flight and it will only go 20 or 30 yards. But it still comes from you hitting above the equator, the top part of the ball, the ball will just go downwards.

A thin is a very similar sort of shot but maybe not quite so severe. A thin is more around the equator or just underneath. But it still involves the ball hitting the bottom one or 2 groove on the club face and not hitting the sweet and meaty part of the golf club in the middle. It’s much more about hitting the bottom one or two groove. It results in a very low flight. A bit of tinny noise that you might listen too as well. And sometimes it will actually tingle the fingers.

I hear from a lot of beginners when I’m teaching them, they say, I got to shock off the golf club and it hurts the fingers and that basically that’s not a good enough strike. It’s a bit higher from the golf ball. We all like that strike when we get down low enough under the ball and you always don’t feel the club striking the ball tall. It just comes off really sweetly and then you got the top and the thin where it vibrates the golf club.

So during this next section, we’re hopefully going to look at some exercises and some drills that would encourage you to get the better quality contacts lesser the tops and the thin shots.
