If you play golf for any appreciative amount of time, you'll understand that hitting a nice, high ball flight can have big, big advantages. If you have a look at some of the best players in the world – Jason Day, Lee McCoy, these are players who hit the ball exceptionally high with their irons and with their drivers as well. This is because launching the ball up into the air with a good ball strike will have the advantages of when it lands on the green to stop quickly and get nearer the holes. If you have a very, very low ball flight and you're approaching greens on say PGA Tour Course which is very heavily bunkered; there's not many room pairings to the greens; it's hard to get the ball stopping on the quick surfaces and giving yourself chance for birdies. And also if you're wedging onto the green, if you've missed a shot or you're on par five, giving yourself the chance to get up and down.

So hitting a high ball flight really really does have massive advantages. To ensure that you hit that high ball flight, you need to make sure that the strike of the ball is consistent; making sure that you have the amounts of loft that’s needed to get the ball up in the air. Simply striking down on the ball is not enough to ensure this. Now if we have a look at the opposite end of the scale and people who strike the ball well, but have a very, very low ball flight; this can be a big advantage on, say links course or The British open. So if you watch on TV or you manage to be lucky enough to go to British Open, you will know the links course is a very different than Parkland courses; there are a lot more chances to run it along the ground and run it up to greens. So having an overall control of the ball flight is very, very useful, let's say on those links courses that will cause – switches around so the wind is now behind. Having the choice to hit the ball high will give you that advantage of carrying it downwind and going back into the wind, being able to hit it low, will also give you those advantages as well. So hitting a high ball flight is fantastically useful for most people on most courses. However, having the option to control ball flight and keep it a little bit low if you need to, can also be very useful as well. And that is certainly something that we are going to be looking at within this video series.
