So for now I’m going to start talking about swing plane, it’s quite important we firstly understand what is swing plane and what are the variations and variables. So swing plane is often described as the line that the club had travelled on during the backswing and the angle of the shaft during the backswing. So we could have a steep swing plane, or a flat swing plane or we can have a one plane or a two plane golf swing. So a two plane golf swing is a swing that comes up on one line, where the club gets relatively steep in the backswing phase. And then flattens off during the downswing. And you saw the shaft there changed positions from a steeper to a flatter angle during the transition. And that would be described as a two plane golf swing. Probably the most famous two plane golf swing of all is Jim Furyk, some would say there’s more than two planes in his swing but his backswing is near vertical.
Jim takes the club up here in a vertical position, smashes the club down on the inside into a very flat position, and attacks the golf ball from the inside. The important thing about that is he gets this big really, really nicely sort of hit level to hit level through impact and it’s a golf swing that’s won millions and millions of dollars. But it’s a very big two plane transition; looking at a golfer more like Matt Kuchar you’ve got a very one plane action. A golf swing where the swing plane comes around relatively flat on the backswing and on the downswing, so the backswing and downswing, swing planes are more similar rather than having backswing and downswing with quite a big transition. So we firstly need to look at what your current swing plane looks like, is it a one-plane swing, is it a two-plane swing? Once we’ve understood that we can go ahead and improve the plane of your golf swing.
