The Fundamentals Of Hitting A Powerful Golf Draw (Video) - Lesson by Peter Finch

So one of the fundamentals of hitting that draw, that powerful shot that you want to be seeing, first of all is understanding how to change club path. You need your club path to be traveling from the inside to the outside of the target line to be able to produce a close club face to that path yet remaining open to the target will give you that right to left, both lie. Understanding that is the first step. Changing path is the next step, so changing that path – so it’s moving from the inside of the target line to the outside of the target line.

Now, a lot of people can do this naturally within their swing. So if you’re getting set up with your feet parallel to the target line, you can kind of do this a little bit. We’ll kind of go into the videos later on about how you can [that stance] to create a little bit more of a draw. But if you’re setting up with your feet parallel to the target line, bow position just inside the left heel here, you don’t lean too far forward because that will not help you get from the inside, getting set over this right shoulder tilt. The easiest way to kind of redefine your path, to change your path and to get it moving in a way that you want to is taking the club nice and wide but feeling like it's traveling a little bit more around the inside of the body. Now, if you are a natural slicer, a lot of the tendencies will be to take the club upwards with quite steep backswing. So moving a club long low and wide and a little bit more around the inside of the body will get you set up into a position where these hands can then drop down a little bit closer to the body. If you take that wide backswing, moving it more around and then using those hands so they drop down a little bit low towards the body, if you then simply rotate, you will notice how that club is traveling more from an inside position to an outside position. Now, this isn't specifically working on face position, this is all about altering path because that’s the first point that you need to produce that shot. So getting set up, with that set up, moving that club long and low around an inside path and then feeling like the hands are dropping down close to the body on the way through. What this hold produce is a shaft angle that you slightly flutter within the downswing and that will deliver that club slightly more from an inside position.
