If you had to make a putt to win a million dollars, I’d like to tell you that, it doesn’t matter what length it is, I’d like to have a go at it any length of putt, I’d have a go for a million dollars. But then if I said to you, “Well the catch is you’re only allowed to use one hand. And now let’s make it ten footer.” so a ten foot putt with one hand. Which hand would you choose? You’d probably stand there just looking at it going, “How about that one? That doesn’t feel too good. And how about that one? Oh that feels better.” Most people have probably got a dominant hand, now it might not be your right hand if that’s the one you write with you, you might feel it in golf you get more stability with a different hand.

But it’s quite important that we check which one is your dominant hand and then try and work on the other hand and bring that one into play a little bit more. Because we don’t really like the feeling of one of the hands overriding the other hand. So practice this next time you get to the golf course. Have a little look at the ten foot putt; imagine you’ve got that putt for a million, which hand would you use to putt with? You might have five goals with the right hand, you might have five goes with the left hand, you might have five goes with the left hand, you might feel that one of those hands is more successful. But then go ahead and practice with your other hand, take that putt again and just take it over and over again, get the rocking feeling back and through. It’s quite important that you don’t over grip the club when you’re doing this. One thing people find is that when they are only putting with one hand, they end up strangling it with the hand. And it’s not necessary, the club is not overly heavy, we’re not swinging it too far, it should be quite easy and comfortable just to swing it back and through with one hand. Get some nice feeling of control from that hand. Then when you bring both hands back together again, they really need to feel now like they’re working together as one unit. So they’re not working together as two independent bits, one pulling one pushing or fighting each other. But they should sit on the putter now with even control, with just strength and your hands up a little bit, giving that a little bit more feeling of it can control the club. Let the two hands swing nice and evenly together back and through and never feel like one hand needs to dominate. So if you have that ten foot putt again for a million, you should feel equally confident using the right hand and using the left hand, and they’re both going to knock it in every time.
