Ikeda had a very successful amateur career, winning a number of titles including the Junior World Golf Championships in 2003 which was played in San Diego. He represented his country in the Eisenhower Trophy on two occasions, in 2004 and 2006.
Since turning pro in 2008, Ikeda has played predominantly on his native Japan Tour where he has claimed 12 titles since turning pro. At certain stages in his career, he has held a position within the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Ikeda has played in nine Major Championships and has a best finish of 29th which came at the 2010 US Masters. Ikeda played in the 2011 Royal Trophy when his Asian team went down 9 points to 7 against the European team that was captained by Colin Montgomerie. That year, Ikeda also had the honour of representing his native Japan at the World Cup.
Ikeda has played a total of 25 PGA Tour events in his career, making the cut in 13 of them. His best finish to date is a tie for 22nd at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship in 2010. His career best world ranking was 35th which was achieved after he won the Bridgestone Open in 2009 and he topped the Japan Tour money list. This was one of four victories that season.
