Hearn was born in Brampton, Ontario and grew up to attend the University of Wyoming. While at college Hearn played on the golf team, and he was a member of the Canadian team that won Four Nations Cup tournament in 2001. Allow Hearn attended college at this time he didn’t actually compete his degree until seven years later, in 2008. Hearn turned professional the same year and was awarded the title of Rookie of the Year on the Canadian Tour in 2002.

Having missed the cut at the US Open in 2008, Hearn made the cut for the first time at a major in 2013, at the US Open where he eventually finished in a tie for 21st place.
As of the end of 2014, Hearn was yet to achieve a win on the PGA Tour, but he had amassed total prize money of $4,461,327.
