2. Pacific Dunes Golf Club Course Review

The golf course is short enough to offer hope, but also rugged and tough enough to test your skills from any position. The Pacific Dunes Golf Club is a public facility, which is great in this writers opinion, and it was ranked 3rd for public courses and 19th overall in Golf Digests Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses in America in 2013-2014 and the first in its home-state Oregon. Some of the holes play near the ocean and while youre on the hill top, towering more than one hundred feet over the Pacific, youll be flabbergasted by the epic scenery which adds drama, beauty and exhilaration to your game. However, strong winds may play havoc with your game if you hit too high with a wedge or a low iron. Dont forget to bring a camera while playing the Pacific Dunes golf course, youll have the time of your life here.

3. Palmetto Golf Club Course Review

The Palmetto Golf Club is a hidden gem without question and if youre a true golf aficionado, youll be amazed by its history. The club was founded by Thomas Hitchcock and there were numerous golf architects and designers that put their signatures and influences on the overall design, the likes of Donald Ross, Herbert Leeds, James Mackrell, Alister MacKenzie, Reese Jones and later Tom Doak and Gil Hanse in 2003/2007. The club hosted numerous pro golfers throughout its long history and the course features 6695 yards from its longest tees, being the definition of pure golf in terms of layout and design. Truth be told, the Palmetto Golf Club makes for one of the few pure-classics left in South Carolina and being available to public during Masters week, you should give it a shot, whilst being prepared for an European styled experience.

4. Pasatiempo Golf Club Course Review

The Pasatiempos bunkering was restored in 2007 under the close supervision of architect Tom Doak, who rebuilt to their original state the masterfully designed bunkers which were MacKenzies signature, thus bringing the golf course back to life. As per metrics, the Pasatiempo features 6439 yards of golf from its longest tees for a 70 par, a course rating of 72.6 and a slope rating of 139. This golf club was arguably Alister MacKenzies favorite, hence the 2007 restoration job was painstaking yet thorough, with an end result nothing less than perfect. Playing on the new/restored Pasatiempo feels exactly the same as the original, as the golf courses core values remained intact. The course plays more like 7400 yards honestly, due to its difficult greens, the changes in elevation and the little-roll fairways. The Pasatiempo golf course is one of the best in the United States and its one of the few old school classics which offer public access all year round, which is a true privilege.

5. Peachtree Golf Club Course Review

The Peachtree Golf Club can be described as a very exclusive old school classic, as Robert Trent Jones worked together with Bobby Jones (his brother) to design this beauty in northeast Atlanta, in an area filled with large dogwood and pine trees. The bunkers are very much like Augustas and the undulating/rolling terrain upon which the course is built is rich in azalea flowers and its always in impeccable condition. Also, the courses feel, layout and design is pretty similar to Augusta National, but thats hardly a big surprise considering Bobby Joness input with regard to the Peachtrees layout. This baby has a good reputation among golfing enthusiasts as being very playable, challenging yet fair, making for a pure golfing experience and being that type of course which can be played day in and day out, and yet it never gets old, if you know what I mean. The conditioning and the terrain at Peachtree Golf Club are ideal for golf and taking into account its rolling undulations, the masterfully designed bunkers and the overall experience, youll be delighted to play on one of the best golfing facilities in the United States.

The Spring Mill golf course at Philadelphia Country Club can be best described as a classic design/layout from the Golden Age of golf ,being masterfully routed across the property, taking full advantage of the contours and the features of the land, yet in a gentle manner, without intruding too much. Basically, the land was left in the same state as the designer found it. Each of the eighteen holes has a distinctive character, the hazards are often deep and the bunkers frame the landing area right and left. The golf course suffered many changes during its long and tumultuous history, but with the latest restoration it was returned to its original state. In 1990, during the Clubs Centennial Anniversary, an additional golf course was added to the property, a 9 hole variety, designed by architect Tom Fazio, as the Centennial Nine. Together with enjoying a great round of golf, visiting the Philadelphia Country Club offers various other activities for its members, things like bridge or bowling.
