Which Golf Ball Compression Is Right For You (Video) - by Peter Finch

Within the last 30 years golf technology has moved on leaps and bounds. And one of the key areas where it has made the most progression is within the golf ball. And when you are choosing golf balls, there is lots of different things that you need to be aware of. Now one of these is compression, and how must a ball will compress once its hit. It can be a little of a mine field, because a lot of companies offer different compression balls. And there is numbers which you associate with a 100% compression, 50% compression, 75% compression, what does all this mean? And in any roundabout way the higher the ball compression the harder it is, therefore when you strike that ball, it will deform less at the point of impact and then it will spring away and fly potentially farther, although there is a lot of disagreement on this.

The soft compression balls or the lower compression balls, they will move more at the point of impact. And therefore they will be flying further, technically with the slowest swing speed because they will have more spring as you strike. But generally speaking they will be a softer golf ball. The key when you are trying to figure out the best ball for you is to decide what you want the feel more, of a harder ball or a softer ball, more distance, less potential distance, but like I said, we will get on to how this is not a universally agreed principal. So what we are going to do now is look through all the different compressions of balls, how to find the right compression ball for you and your game and the differences that you should be able to see if you change in-between them, so let’s talk.
