The lob wedge is probably one of the clubs in the bag alongside the putter, but the golfer never really seems to hit hard, we never really make full swings with lob wedges. When you look at the TV you watch the tour players occasionally you’ll see them hitting full wedges and hit full lob wedges, sorry. And this is how it can be used. Firstly, it’s a great way of getting the ball out of long grass. You know if I was playing on long grass like this, really thick grass, and I wanted to cut down and get the club to drive through that turf, I'd use something like a lob wedge and you can see I'm actually cutting the grass around the ball as I hit it. So, full lob wedge is from long grass can work quite well. But also full lob wedges from the fairway can be quite important to you as well. If I can hit a full wedge here, I should be able to give myself a really accurate yardage and I know roughly how far that club goes, then I know that when I've got to play that shot again, it should go the same distance each time.

So next time I'm on the golf course and I really need to hit a 50-yard shot that goes exactly 50 yards, then my lob wedge might be the club to use. That would be quite important to give me a correct yardage instead of laying up into the green. So I want to hit an exact shot that lays – let’s say shot of a hazard. If I've got a ditch or a pond in front of the green and I've got exactly 50 yards for the layup, I know my lob wedge is a club that can’t go beyond that point whereas any of the club in my bag I could hit too far, but hit with my lob wedge layup to the correct distance I can then go with my neck shot onto the green. So lob wedge is great for hitting out to the long grass, great for hitting nice, long, big full swings that go correct yardages if you've got that yardage dialed in. So next time you're at the range, practice a few times with the full lob wedge and just make sure you've got that exact full distance in your armory, so you've got that layup option in your game using your lob wedge.
