As well as having acquired a noticeable spine tilt during the technique and the addressing the technique in the whole golf swing, Nicklaus also has quite an exaggerated head tilt that's addressing throughout the golf swing as well. Now it's difficult to know where this started life as he -- because it’s quite an unusual position to get into to have a head position tilted so far back. But with Nicklaus it really allows him to rotate a lot better during the back swing. So we already know that Nicklaus has quite an exaggerated spine tilt. If you add into that the point that his head really tilt back as well, you can see there's a lot of leaning off to the right hand side.

Now I've already spoken about how the spine tilt allows him to have something constant to turn around. But the head tilt as he moves off to the right hand side and upwards as the chin lifts up, it clears a big gap in the chest area for the left shoulder to rotate into. It’s one of the things that many people notice about Nicklaus’ swing and don't quite join the dots. That during the back swing he had such a massive shoulder turn, such a huge amount of buildup of power during the back swing. And that is because we have that tilt in the spine. It allows him to turn around the constant point. As that head lifted up and tilted to the left-hand side it allows the shoulders to rotate freely and the left shoulder to turn freely underneath the left chin. That little movement and that little position of the head can give so much of an advantage. I wouldn't generally recommend that most people tilt it off to the side so much. They are certainly lifting up the chin nice and high, and allowing yourself to have that room to turn the left shoulder into will allow you to have a much bigger and a much more powerful backswing.
