The Frustrating Problem Of Hitting Pop Ups With The Driver And How To Solve It (Video) - by Pete Styles

There aren’t many shots in Golf that I won’t manage to demo for somebody, generally speaking I can hit every bad shot that a golfer wants me to hit. But the one bad shot I never demo is the Pop-Up drive. And the problem with the pop-up drive is quite often, it damages the driver and I don’t fancy doing that today. But the pop-up drive is generally we have got the ball teed up on a nice big high tpeg. We have got our mates surrounded first tee, we have got a fairway down here 400 yards long, we want to monster this ball as far as we can, we got a big wide stumps and setup, great big back swing, all the best intensions and we gouge down onto the ball, we take too much of a divot which is a driver which is never a good thing with a driver.

The ball hits this part of the club, rolls off the roof, shoots up in the air, 50 yards up, 10 yards forward, lands on the front and possibly not past the ladies tee and you are left with an embarrassment of having to go and play that ball from 10 yards away and a damaged driver, like I said that’s why I am not going to hit the shot for you. But that pop-up drive can be a very critical shot, it can be very embarrassing it can damage your driver and it is definitely going to give up the advantage of having the ball on a tpeg. You know we don’t get the tpeg very often you want to get 18 times around. We want to utilize that advantage by hitting our driver as far as we can and getting and play. And wasting that advantage by popping the ball up into the air and dropping in front of it is very frustrating. So in this next little miniseries we are going to identify why those pop-up shots are bad, how they are created and how we can stop skying the golf ball with our driver. 2016-05-02
