Eliminate Heel Hits With A Flatter Golf Swing Plane (Video) - by Pete Styles

If we have established that the fault with the driver is a golf swing that’s too steep, too much over the top and that can be one of the things that causes the heel strike, then surely we need to understand the correction. Now, the correction is going to simply be a flatter swing plane. So as we’ve set up to the golf ball and we get a good address position, we’ve established the fault is good coming back but over the top coming down getting it steep and outside the line, therefore the correction needs to be on line to here and then try and feel like the club shallows out a little bit, flattens out a little bit here, comes to the golf ball more from the inside. And they would square up and you can see that’s going to hit a lot more of the toe side of the club rather than throwing out and over and hitting the heel of the golf club.

And that’s the theory, the principle behind it. But that is an area that lots of golfers do feel like they struggle with. They might have been outside the line for many, many years, and therefore dropping the club from the inside can actually take quite a lot to work on. So what I would suggest you go ahead to try is it from a good address position we’re up to the top right here, the right elbow comes down into the side of the body, the right below drops towards the right hip. We bring the club from the inside and we attack the ball from inside rather than throwing the right elbow getting steep, getting outside and hitting across. It might also help the golfer if they actually lay a cane that points to the right-hand side, so effectively a spare club or a line cane on that path and that should encourage the flatter swing plane more from the inside and really help with that concept to trying to hit the ball out to the right rather than throwing it over. We should also move the strike location more to the center of the golf club.
