So if we have discussed this idea of having a game improvement set, it’s quite important we understand all the individual clubs that might make up that set and how some could be more beneficial to have than others. Very rarely do you now go into a pro shop and just buy everything laid out in one particular bag. We can go in there and we can cherry pick, we can pick the driver and the three wood, and the hybrids, and the irons and the wedges and the putter all slightly separately. And I think that’s a good thing, it gives the customer choice but it’s also important the customer therefore doesn’t get confused by how many clubs there are in a bag and how they are going to all fit into their set and are they going to use them all? The first thing to consider is if a game improvement set of golf clubs is right for you, let’s make sure that they’re going to be right for you in six months or a years time as well.
So I would suggest anyone that’s regularly shooting into the high 90s and into the 100s is going to be a game improvement customer. Now if you’re shooting into those scores, let’s say you’re shooting 95, 96 but you’re regularly taking lessons and your scores are dropping quite quickly maybe you don’t need a step back to the game improvement clubs, maybe just playing with a regular set of mid handicap irons, you’re going to come down to shooting 90 in the next 12 months, you don’t necessarily need to change your clubs once and then change back again. But if you’ve been playing the game for five years and you’re not shooting anything better than a 100, then maybe a game improvement set of golf clubs is going to be the thing that could reignite your passion for the game and start to improve your scores, so a game improvement set might be the right thing.
Then when we look at within the set, we want to make sure we get the right number of clubs, most of the game improvement stuff would be probably five iron down to pitching wedge these days, so five irons to wedge would be the game improvement irons. Then you can look at adding extra wedges I’d try another gap wedge, a sand wedge and a lobe wedge so an extra three wedges within that set. Then at the top end of the bag, try and avoid things like four irons, three irons, two irons, they’re just very, very difficult to hit. At the top end of the bag there, we want to look at the hybrid golf clubs, four hybrid, three hybrids, something of that nature. Then we could look at the fairway woods, seven wood, five wood, driver, something like that, but then the driver needs to be plenty of loft, 12, 13 degrees of loft, don’t get anything in this eight, nine degrees loft for the stiff like shaft, it’s just going to g far too low, we want something with loads of loft, get the ball flying really high up in the air. The game is hard enough for you, let’s make the game as easy as possible by getting plenty of loft on your irons, nice, soft flex shaft, nice, big club heads and then plenty of hybrid golf clubs instead of long irons, and I think getting a game improvement set of golf clubs in your hands could make a big difference to the level of enjoyment you have with the game, and ultimately improve you as a golfer.
