If Tommy Armour III, known as “TA” by his friends, didn’t exist in the real world, he’d be a Hollywood character in one of those classic sports movies. Armour is one of the most colorful characters in PGA and Champions Tour history.

From partying with Hollywood A-list celebrities in Las Vegas to hosting lavish parties in his home at the Byron Nelson Championship, Armour has likely received more press and hype than any other two-time winner in PGA Tour history.

Armour is the grandson of Tommy Armour, the legendary “Silver Scot”, a three-time Major champion. Born in Colorado, Tommy was raised in Las Vegas in a home just off the 3rd hole at Desert Inn Country Club. Athletes and movie stars were a part of Armour’s life growing up and remained a staple after he became a touring professional.

Being a tour professional isn’t easy and a famous last name doesn’t ensure you a tour card. To his credit, Armour has successfully navigated the PGA Qualifying School tournament on four different occasions. And, his second career win, at the 2003 Valero Texas Open stands out – Armour’s 254 remains the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history.

Armour actually has experienced his greatest success in the past decade. In 2008, at age 48, he earned over $1.5 million on the PGA Tour. For the 2010 season, Armour turned his attention to the Champions Tour. He recorded 10 top tens in 23 starts that season. He also quit smoking in November 2010.
