Jung-Min Lee is an emerging force on the Korean LPGA Tour. Lee arrived on the scene as a long-hitting amateur. She captured the 2008 Polo Junior Championship holding off Korean-American Jenny Shin for the title.
Lee joined the Korean Tour in 2010 and largely struggled in her first season. The one exception was her victory in the Doosan Match Play tournament where she defeated a string of highly regarded players, Hee Kyung Seo, Bo Mee Lee and Hyun Hee Moon, on her way to the title.
Lee struggled in her sophomore season, managing only a single top ten and 66th on the money list.
In 2012, Jung-Min rebounded with a series of top tens and her second KLPGA tour victory, the Seokyung Ladies Open. She finished 6th on the year end money list.
Her on-again, off-again pattern continued with an average year in 2013. She did manage 5 top tens but fell to 23rd on the money list.
2014 was Jung-Min Lee’s breakthrough season on the KLPGA. She recorded 14 top tens, won twice and made the cut in her first LPGA appearance (Hana Bank Championship) on her way to finishing third on the money list.
The future appears bright for Jung-Min. If she can harness her driver, she can drive the ball over 300 yards, and find more consistency, Lee may well follow the path of other South Korea women who’ve found their way to the higher-paying LPGA.
