John Henry Taylor is best known as JH Taylor who was one of the great triumphal of English golfers of James Braid and Harry Vardon who really dominated the professional scene at their peak in the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. Now what JH Taylor is very famous for is his course design and his effect on the modern game but not many people know he won the Open Championship five times himself so he was a real, real player. Now what he managed to do very, very well in his swing, is drive the legs through very aggressively into impact.

So the back swing, shoulder turn and width were pretty good, pretty standard nothing too incredible about that but as the body came through the legs drove very, very hard through the shot. Now as our legs drove hard through the shot it allowed the weight to move over to the front foot allow the hands and the arms to come through afterwards and hit the ball out there very, very well. It’s not always an easy move to make because as you start to shift your foundations of the swing the upper body can be almost a little bit compromised at times. But if you can get it right the weight shift is very, very dramatic, the swing speed is increased and the shot can be fantastic as well. So taking it to the top of the swing if you wanted to give this a go, take to the top really feel like those legs are driving down towards the target. And if you can get it right then there is some good strikes in the offing. One of the great players of the old era including the other three as well. Have a look at his swing if you can find images and videos of it and give it a go.
