What Is The Pen Holder Golf Putting Grip And Should I Consider Using It (Video) - by Pete Styles

Amongst the huge different number of different putting grips, there’s one putting grip I really quite like, and that’s the pen holder putting grip. And I’ll talk you through how you can use it and why you might consider using it. Firstly take your top hand as normal and place that on the grip in its normal position. And then take your bottom hand and hold it down towards the bottom under the grip, like you're holding a pen. So imagine you're holding a pen. So the thumb and first two fingers and they're going to hold onto the grip.

Back two fingers just close around and actually twist the hand knot on the grip. So it's really a thumb and two fingers grip like you're holding a pen. Then the left hand controls for me the right hand just guides. So the left hand rocks and the right hand guides. And the big difference with holding in the pen holder fashion is the hand finds it very difficult to rotate this way, but it doesn’t find it difficult to rotate this way. So a normal golf grip we would be flicking and rotating the bottom hand too much. And if that’s an example of how you feel you're letting yourself down with your putting because you're flicking and hinging too much, then the pen holder grip might be great technique for you to use. Holding with thumb and two fingers, holder to your fingers tied around the back, little by little through and you feel your thumb handles most to the controlling and the back hand is just there to guide and definitely not there to overly influence and flick. That’s the pen holder method and that’s how you could use it to benefit your putting game.
