So, hitting the golf ball further and longer tee shots. It's not always about how fast your body turns if your hands and arms aren't in sync with your body rotation. So, we want to do a couple of drills and exercises now to get the hands working in unison with the body turn. Particularly releasing the hands is a big source of a lot of power, but more importantly not releasing the hands is a killer for your power.

So, great exercise that you can practice at home, stand feet together facing on in front of a mirror. You got a tee peg on the floor or just hitting down at the carpet is fine and good set up, swing back and just create a little L shape. In the left hand, this horizontal shaft of the golf club is vertical. Clip down at the tee and create an L-shape on the follow-through side as well.

Try and keep your left arm as straight as you can on both sides. Any bending and pulling up of the left hand and arm, it's very difficult to get the rotation. By putting your feet together, you slow the body down for a time and it allows your hands and arms to work a little bit quicker to generate the extra club head speed. So, feet together, gently back, L-shape, gently through, L-shape, and there's more power in that motion there than there would be in that where there is no rotation, no L-shape, no club head speed. So, practice that exercise looking head on into a mirror for the time being.

Then, when you take your feet a little bit wider, more to the full width of the set up, we can add in the body rotation and the L-shape release of the hands, so now we've got full turn and L-shape, full turn and L-shape, and that's going to magnify the distance you can hit the golf ball because everything is timed and working together. Now, if you can practice this drill out on the driving range or the practice grounds as well, that's great. So, we have feet together and just flick the ball away here, L-shape to L-shape and just flick the ball away with your toes together and see how far the ball goes.

You'd be surprised that well-timed and well released hands will give the ball maybe 80% to 90% of its total distance, even though I haven't used my body at all. If I want to put the extra width in there, the extra release, I might be able to get that extra 10% or 20% of power, but releasing your hands is a real crucial way of delivering more club head speed for longer golf shots.
