What are the best drills to improve my golf ball striking? Now striking the golf ball consistently requires a number of different impact factors. And the best drill to actually use is one which combines everything although it just feels quite strange and it certainly requires a few funky shots to begin with. However the more and more you practice, the better and better you will become. Now this drill to actually improve the consistency of the ball strike requires you to take the club to the top of the back swing with a nice full shoulder turn but bring it down slowly and just a pause at this point here. Now this is called the palm drill, and what it actually does it allows the angle between the wrist and the club to remain the same and it allows you to strike down on the ball giving those hands slightly ahead at impact.

Now like I said, it does feel very strange to begin with because it actively stops you during your down swing. However what it does like I said it allows that angle to be kept, it gets you the feeling of turning through and it gets you the feeling of striking down on the ball. So before you actually strike a shot I have a couple of practice swings, so it’s there, there, and there, there, there and then there. And then actually move on to a ball and you just want to get in the sensation of just striking down on the ball and then on the turf so it’s there, there and there. So using that palm drill it will really kind of bring a lot of the correct impact factors all into one drill and it will definitely help you strike down through the ball especially with the iron shots. What you don’t want to be doing with this drill is rushing it, take your time, feel every single position in the down swing. The more and more you fill the positions the more and more you practice, the more and more you’ll groove it. And grooving a correct impact position is the best way to improve the consistency of your ball striking.
